Description
This small oil sketch was painted en plein air – in the open air, outside. The spot I painted this from is just behind my home in Christmas Valley, along the South Upper Truckee River. Every day is an adventure living here. The forest and river change and evolve minute to minute, reminding me of the impermanence of life, and the importance of being in the moment. The logs that have fallen across the river change positions or disappear completely with the seasons, water flow, storms and time. There is a beautiful unspoken song going back and forth between all of the elements, which is a privilege to bear witness to.
