Art of Ashtanga Originals (Unframed Single Figure)

$950.00

Select from 74 unframed original drawings – please contact me to check availability. Each artwork is created using charcoal on heavyweight archival paper measuring 16 x 22″. The paper is called ‘Stonehenge’, and is a cool grey with a deckled edge.

Commissioned for a teacher training manual in 2019, these original drawings are meticulously rendered to instruct specific yoga poses. All figures are the same size, and include vertical and horizontal matrices to guide practitioners to perfect body alignment. However, a softness, space and flow are present in every figure, part of each left unfinished, wild.

The Art of Ashtanga drawings are part of a collaboration with yoga master Laura Josephy of Tahoe Yoga Shala. Laura commissioned drawings of every Asana (pose) in the Aṣṭāṅga Primary Series for the training manual to accompany her Teacher Training and Mysore Style Apprenticeship in 2019.

There are 74 drawings, one for each pose in the series.  Photographs of Laura were taken to develop an ‘Avatar’ which established the look and proportions of the figure in each drawing. Great care has been taken to ensure correct alignment and posture in each of these artworks, in addition to the drishti (gaze) and pranayama (breath, visually indicated by expansion of the chest.)

Each drawing is created using charcoal on heavyweight archival paper measuring 16 x 22″. The paper is called ‘Stonehenge’, and is a cool grey with a deckled edge.
